10 kilometers south of Greymouth, Shantytown is a remarkable reproduction of a village from the days of the local gold rush. You can wander through the streets as they were in those days, with their post office, shops, pub, prison and residents' homes. There's even a small steam train and a museum section to better understand the importance of this activity in the West Coast boom.
