Formerly known as the Coaltown Museum, this center is part of the Pounamu Pathway network, a collaborative initiative between Poutini Ngāi Tahu and Wētā Workshop, aimed at showcasing the region's history, culture and natural resources. It features four main exhibitions: Wealth of the Land (pounamu, coal and gold), Early Settlement (the arrival of the Maoris), Ecstasy of Gold (the gold rush), People Pou (stories from the locals).
