TE WAIKOROPUPU SPRINGS
Also known as Pupu Springs, these springs are located after a short walk through a forest of kanuka and manuka trees. The clarity of the water and the colors that emanate from it are astonishing, coming from an extensive underground network. These are the largest in the country and in Australasia in terms of volume. The water gushes out at a rate of 14,000 liters per second, and flows into the Takaka River. Due to problems with parasitic algae, access is now restricted: it is forbidden to touch or drink the water, let alone dive into it.
