SANCTUARY MOUNTAIN - MAUNGATAUTARI

Natural site to discover

An ancient volcano turned into a 3,400-hectare protected reserve where New Zealand's endemic flora and fauna can flourish without predators. 48 km of fences make the area a veritable sanctuary. Species that live here and can be encountered include kaka, hihi, takahe, giant weta, popokatea, kiwi and tuatara.
