The church on this site dates from 1841 and was used to welcome the first Catholic immigrants to the city, mostly Irish. At first a simple chapel, then a church, it became a cathedral in 1848. Enlarged in 1885, the current building dates only from 1908 after the architect Edward Mahoney decided to demolish the old building to rebuild a new one. This neo-Gothic style building is one of New Zealand's historic sites.

Beau monument d’Auckland
Un très beau monument à ne pas manquer lors de votre balade dans le CBD (quartier d’affaires du centre-ville). Non loin de la Sky Tower.

Située tout près de la Sky Tower, cette cathédrale est originale dans sa disposition intérieure. Le plafond en bois est très beau, sinon le reste est assez basique. À voir si on passe dans le quartier.
