55 km further south, Langano is a popular holiday destination for the capital's residents. Best avoided at weekends. Dominated to the east by the Arsi massif, the lake extends over 305 km2 and is unevenly shaped, reaching depths of over 40 m. Despite its coppery-brown color, the lake's water is healthy (elsewhere, bilharzia is a real risk), making Langano an ideal place for swimming. It's the only beach in the country. You can also enjoy birdwatching and all kinds of water sports.
