We are here at the geographical centre of Europe. In 1989, the I.G.N. (National Geographical Institute of France) defined Europe's borders and calculated that Europe's geographical centre was 26 km north of the Lithuanian capital, at 54 ° 54 ' N and 25 ° 19 ' N. Located at equal distance between the Urals and the Atlantic, this famous central point is reported by a granite sculpture blowing at the top of a hill (after a wooden bridge). The sculpture is decorated with 27 flags, that of Europe and one for each member of the Union (the sculpture dates back to 2007, and thus before Bulgaria and Romania joined in 2007 and then Croatia in 2013). The park around has been built and there is also a shop that will give you a certificate mentioning your passage to the centre of Europe (15 Lt). To get there, follow the Molėtai highway to the village of Girija.
