61 km from Daugavpils, Līvāni is a small town with a past glory. It has been inhabited by merchants and craftsmen since the 10th century due to its strategic geographical location: at the confluence of the Daugava and Dubna rivers. In the 19th century, the town became industrialized, the train stopped there, and the glass factory employed 300 workers. Today, some traces of past history remain, including the factory and its Glass Museum, an Orthodox church (9 Parka iela), a Lutheran church (22 Lāčplēša) and a Catholic church (19 Baznīcas iela).
