11 miles south-east of Saint-François, two small deserted islands, Terre-de-Haut and Terre-de-Bas (1.5 km²), are managed by the Office National des Forêts and depend administratively on Désirade. Renowned for the richness of their seabed, their only inhabitants are iguanas, crabs and birds. Only four guards of the ONF reside in turn on the island of Terre-de-Bas. Declared a nature reserve since 1994, the territory has become a sanctuary for fauna and flora, especially crabs, iguanas and sea birds. Terre-de-Haut is not accessible. All hunting and fishing are strictly forbidden
