Inaugurated in 1881, it replaced the former Calderón Theatre, located between Obispo Orberá and Juan Lirola calles, and became the main theatre in Almería. In which were performed many zarzuelas and works of theatre or opera, one of the great passions of the Almerienses at the end of the 19th century. After various renovations in the 20th century, which saw it used for other purposes such as cinemas, its reconstruction was undertaken in 1993, with the aim of preserving its original main façade.
