SOJO CAFE RIBERA
Read moreIf there is a place to come and have a drink in Córdoba, it is this one. This large lounge area, with multiple nooks and crannies for festive groups and various markets, has a superb panoramic terrace, with spectacular views of the city, the river and the Roman bridge. We sit around small tables on stools, or on Moroccan footstools inside. Be careful, it is not easy to identify the entrance, it is a very simple building hall with a very discreet logo. You take the elevator from the back and go up to the top floor.
CABALLERIZAS REALES
Read moreThe former Royal Stables of the horse-loving King Filipe II, dating back to the 16th century, have naturally been transformed into the International Horse Center, presenting the purebred Spanish equestrian show "Pasión y Duende del Caballo Andaluz", to be seen to appreciate the Andalusian pas accompanied by flamenco! Beauty, intelligence and nobility are the words most often used to describe the animals in action during this ballet, which can be completed, why not, at the Yeguada Almuraza (www.yeguadaalmuzara.com), a stud farm some ten kilometers from Cordoba, on the way to Palma del Rio. A great bargain if you don't go to Jerez to visit its Royal Andalusian School of Equestrian Art during your trip.
TABLAO CARDENAL
Read moreNear La Mezquita, in the evening, it is one of the few lively places in the historic district. There are mainly tourists who come to see flamenco shows, with singers, musicians and dancers. However, it is in a rather intimate atmosphere - in the patio of an authentic Andalusian palace-house - that these flamboyant artists, often rightly awarded, evolve. The ensemble knows how to show itself to be of high quality, thanks in particular to the orchestration of Alicia Carmona, the master of this place. Reservation recommended.
GRAN TEATRO
Read moreBuilt in 1871, it is the work of the architect Amadeo Rodríguez which was inaugurated in 1973 with the staging of the zarzuela "Marta". Closed in 1970, it has undergone various restructurings that have not affected its original configuration as a large Italian theatre. Classified as a property of historical and artistic interest in 1982, it is now owned by the City Council of Córdoba and serves as a majestic setting for most of the major events and shows on the municipal cultural agenda: theatre, dance, music, flamenco. Programming to follow online.
GUGGEN BAR
Read moreIn the west of the city centre, a modern trendy bar with regular Djs in action. Space even has a VIP area and an Internet café corner. The specialty of the house: the Irish-coffees well dosage!
ATRIO CAFÉ
Read moreNot far from El Corte Inglés, in the shopping district of Cordoba, this café with cobbled patio terrace under orange trees is housed in a modernist building from the very early 20th century, the school of Art Nouveau architects. Since its opening in summer 2011, this chic and beautiful establishment, with its judicious decor and subdued lighting, has been open at all hours, whether for breakfast, coffee breaks, aperitifs or evening copas with a DJ. Beautiful people and friendly, attentive service. Flamenco programming during the Christmas season.
BAR CORREO
Read moreFounded in 1931 by the grandfather of the current owner, he took his name from a small post office that was once close. Little change since then, only those required by law. More than eighty years of good and loyal services in the heart of town, right next to the plaza de las Tendillas (with his clock clock, his statue of the military chef Gran Capitán and fountains). After the work, it's the multi-generational rendez-vous of a large number of Cordoans, old zinc, minimal decco and little choice and space, so the regulars are pouring on the pedestrian path and the small groups of Tchachers train! Let yourself be tempted by a fresh cerveza caña for the aperitif to accompany a few anchovies… Greeting home, por favor!
