CHUCK HOUSE
Late Gothic house, famous since August 26, 1754 in Brioude.
This late 16th-century Gothic house is said to have belonged to a canon-count. Made of half-timbered walls, a rarity in the town and region, this building has been famous since August 26, 1754, when the famous smuggler Mandrin and his gang robbed the headquarters of the tobacco warehouse. Now the headquarters of the Société Savante de l'Almanach de Brioude, Mandrin's house is frequently transformed into an art gallery, promoting many local artists by allowing them to exhibit their work. In short, heritage enthusiasts can admire its timber-framed facade and Gothic vault. Art lovers can visit the contemporary art exhibitions that follow one another throughout the year. History buffs can meet members of the Almanach de Brioude on Friday afternoons.
