CONSERVATORY ORCHARD OF THE LOIRE VALLEY
Conservatory of fruit species, local flavors and a whole biodiversity of fauna and flora.
Close to the Château du Moine-Sacristain, this orchard preserves not only fruit species, but also a whole biodiversity of flora and fauna. This 3,000 m2 orchard is presented to you as a treasure trove by Gilles, the orchard's curator. This orchard is dedicated to the preservation and dissemination of the Loire Valley's ancient fruit trees. Saving the species means preserving the flavor of the terroir, its local varieties, and also working to preserve a genetic diversity that is now under threat. Open to the public, tours last from one to two hours. It's also possible to take part in courses organized around tastes and to learn how to determine pomology. Self-guided tours are available all year round, and guided tours can be booked in advance. The association offers pruning courses and can help with species identification at private homes.
