40,500 inhabitants. San Borja is the closest town to El Porvenir, the gateway to the Beni Biological Reserve, which is probably the reason for your visit here. The market area is exceptionally busy. Lots of people, brigands' heads too. People look at the gringo with a questioning eye, proof that tourism is still anecdotal around here. The rest of the town is particularly quiet, except in the evening when everyone has the right to a motorbike ride around the square. Life is peaceful in this big town, which nowadays lives mainly from livestock and agriculture and where everyone knows each other.
