Villa San Lorenzo, as it is also called, is a small, sleepy colonial town 20 km north of Tarija. It was the stronghold of the famous guerrilla "Moto" Méndez. You can visit his house. To the north of San Lorenzo, a 20-minute walk away, the Capilla de Lajas (chapel) displays its interesting colonial architecture. The festivities of San Lorenzo at Easter are famous in the country. At the small market in the square you can taste some excellent Argentine specialties: alfajores and empanadas blanqueadas (covered with egg white). To get there, microphones and trufis leave regularly from Tarija at the end of Calle Domingo Paz
