CENTRO CULTURAL EDUARDO LEON JIMENES
The center, one of the most modern in the Caribbean, is dedicated to raising awareness and promoting Dominican art and culture. In addition to the temporary exhibitions, three permanent exhibits allow visitors to immerse themselves in the Dominican soul. And don't forget the attractive gardens and the reproduction of the authentic Jiménez cigar factory...
The tours are both didactic and entertaining, and all the modern techniques used make them easy to understand. "Signs of Identity" offers an anthropological exhibition more or less equivalent to that of the Museo de l'Homme Dominicano in Santo Domingo, with testimonies from all the cultures that have forged Dominican culture, including a large collection of objects from the Taino culture, beautiful pieces recovered from Spanish galleons that ran aground in Dominican waters, an approach to African origins, religious syncretism and daily life in the 19th century. "Genesis and Trajectory" (second level) is an exhibition of contemporary visual arts, featuring some of the great masters of Dominican painting, including Jaime Colson. The Jiménez family is given pride of place in the "Empreinte et Mémoire" exhibition (on the second level of the replica La Aurora building), which traces the journey of this tobacco dynasty from 1903 to 2003 through documents and photos, from the purchase of the first plots of land to the internationalization of its products.
