Two lines are currently in operation. Line 1 serves 16 stations, or 14 km, between Centro de los Héroes (south) and Mamá Tingó (north). Line 2 serves 18 stations, or 13.9 km, between María Montez in the west and Concepción Bona in the northeast. Stations are identified by a large blue capital "M". The metro runs every day, and is reliable and modern.

Four new lines are planned for the coming years. Three French companies won the tender: Alstom, Thalès and Siemens, and the CIM/TSO consortium.
