METRO

Getting around by metro

Two lines are currently in operation. Line 1 serves 16 stations, or 14 km, between Centro de los Heroes (south) and Mama Tingo (north). Line 2 serves 18 stations, or 13.9 km, between Marià Montez in the west and Concepcion Bona in the northeast. Stations are identified by their large blue capital "M". The metro runs every day, and is reliable and modern.

Four new lines are planned for the coming years. Three French companies won the tender: Alstom, Thalès and Siemens, and the CIM/TSO consortium.

Funiculars and cable cars

Connected to the metro, fast and comfortable, the Teleférico Santo Domingo carries 4 million passengers a year. After the first line opened in 2018 (the very first urban cable car line in the Caribbean), a second line was inaugurated in May 2023. With just one ticket, you can cross practically the whole city in 20 minutes. Its four stations (Charles de Gaulle, Sabana Perdida, Los Tres Brazos and Gualey) link 23 districts in the west of the capital. Say good-bye to traffic jams, get up high and enjoy the incredible views.
