The capital's main airport, very similar to the major international airports, is located on the shores of the Caribbean Sea. To get downtown: cab, bus (irregular and inconvenient, as they stop at the end of Avenida Las Américas and don't go as far as the colonial zone), or VTC if you have Internet access. There is no departure tax if your stay is less than 31 days. If you stay from 1 to 3 months, you'll have to pay an additional $3,500, $5,600 from 3 to 9 months, and $7,000 from 9 months to 1 year.

This small, modern airport in the north of the city serves domestic routes: business and tourist flights leave daily for the main cities of the country. The Dr Joaquin Balaguer airport also offers international flights, but only to the Caribbean. Be careful, the road to get there is not well signposted. Do not hesitate to ask for directions, the locals will tell you how to get there.
