The Grande Chaloupe lazaret is one of a series of quarantine sites built in the 19th century to prevent the spread of epidemics. Owned by the departmental council since 1946, then listed as a historic monument in 1998, it has undergone a series of restoration campaigns and now houses a permanent exhibition on engagism and quarantine. It's a must-see if you want to understand what "engagisme" was all about. In another room on the site, you can take a tour of plant crossbreeding.
