This Mecca of spirit tourism in Martinique is famous for its contemporary art foundation, its splendid park and its AOC rums.
Located south of Le François, Habitation Clément is famous for its AOC rums, its contemporary art foundation and its splendid botanical park, which was awarded the Jardin remarquable label in 2015. It represents a major element of Martinique's architectural and industrial heritage. A must-see if you're visiting the island!
L'Habitation includes the former distillery, now a Rhums Clément Interpretation Center, ageing cellars where the famous Clément old rums mature, a Creole house listed as a French historic monument, and a botanical park.
For almost twenty years, three activities have been combined here: the production of agricultural rum, tours of the estate and contemporary art exhibitions. The 16-hectare park is dotted with works of art and indications, and is home to over 300 plant species from different tropical regions of the world, including a remarkable collection of palms from all over the world.
You can also visit the 18th-century Creole house, with its period furniture and old photos. In the tasting room, you can sample the estate's rums and purchase the famous nectar.
To support its policy of promoting Caribbean artists, Habitation Clément has set up a Foundation. It regularly hosts exhibitions, supports local creativity and houses a center for archives and documentary research on the history of Martinique.
