The Water Offices, local public establishments, result from a political will to better understand and improve the monitoring of the quality of the terrestrial and marine aquatic environments in the French Overseas Departments. They are the representatives in the French overseas departments of the Water Agencies on the national territory. The missions of the Martinique Water Office are :
- to inform and raise the awareness of the population and water stakeholders ;
- to develop knowledge on aquatic and marine environments ;
- cooperate with regional and international partners ;
- to subsidize the projects which allow structuring the territory.
