Nestled in a verdant valley a stone's throw from Chambéry, the Maison des Charmettes is a place steeped in history and emotion. It was here that Jean-Jacques Rousseau lived for several years as a young man. A stay he recalls with passion in his Confessions. Period furniture, everyday objects and a simple atmosphere transport visitors into the philosopher's intimacy. Around them, the garden and orchard have been reconstituted with plants and essences from the XVIIIᵉ century.
