A fortified heritage interpretation center in Avrieux, offering visitors the chance to discover the history of the Marie-Thérèse redoubt.

The Marie-Thérèse redoubt, perched at an altitude of 1500 m, is part of the Esseillon barrier, a series of fortifications originally designed to protect the kingdom of Piedmont and Sardinia from French invasion. Built in the 19th century (from 1817 to 1834), this redoubt bears the first name of the wife (Maria Theresa of Austria of Este) of the King of Piedmont and Sardinia: Victor-Emmanuel I. It is built in the shape of a horseshoe and was used as an avant-garde. Today it houses an interpretation centre of the Fortified Heritage, which allows to discover and understand the very atypical and unknown history of this fortified place, in a playful way. All the museography is available in both French and Italian. Temporary exhibitions, activities, games for children, conferences and even concerts bring this place to life.
