Sainte-Croix-en-Jarez, one of France's most beautiful villages, was voted one of France's 25 most beautiful villages by The Times. The only Carthusian monastery in the world to have become a village in its entirety, you can take a guided tour of the "Cour des Frères", the "Cour des Pères", the church with its 14th-century murals, the small cloister and the monastery kitchen. A visit to a hermitage will give you a sense of the mystical dimension of the place.

Visite guidée effectuée le 08 aout 2025 avec Jade. Au-dessus de mes espérances. J'ai appris énormément de choses très intéressantes avec Jade qui est très claire et pétillante dans ses explications. Moi qui ne connaissait pas du tout l'ordre des Chartreux avant, j'ai été conquis par les lieux qui respirent la sérénité. On peut aisément comprendre pourquoi des moines se sont isolés ici. Ce que j'ai particulièrement apprécié sont les explications de Jade concernant : les transformations qu'a subi le site puisqu'il ne ressemble plus à ce qu'il était ; les explications pour la chapelle mediévale (même en mauvaise état, cette chapelle m'a captivé). Merci donc à Jade mais aussi à la personne qui tient l'accueil qui est très sympathique.
Bref, un INCONTOURNABLE.

Très beau site historique réaménagé en habitations avec de nombreux conservations (chapelle, cloché, cours intérieures, jardins, remparts,...). Intégré dans un très joli village.
