Specialized museum
4/5
3 reviews

The Atelier-Musée du Chapeau houses a permanent exhibition, a temporary exhibition space (one exhibition per year), a production workshop, a hat fashion training centre, a resource and documentation centre, reserves, an event space, five designer workshops, a shop and a restaurant. The new museography presents all the stages of the production chain of the luxury felt hat from rabbit hair. Machines in operation, hat making, video testimonies of the workers of the time, reconstituted workshop. The museum's collections cover chronologically and thematically the female and male headgear from the 18th century to the present day. Ecclesiastical hats with the hairstyles of great chefs (Bocuse, Troisgros...), not to mention the authentic headgear worn by famous women and men such as Grace Kelly or François Mitterrand, rub shoulders with the rooms of the houses Paco Rabanne, Nina Ricci, Dior, Saint Laurent Paris, Hermès, Jean-Paul Gaultier, as well as a unique series of hats from the 1970s to the present day from Pierre Cardin, Jacques Pinturier, Marie Mercié, Stephen Jones... A unique place!

CHURCH

Churches cathedrals basilicas and chapels
4/5
1 review

The church was built in the th and th centuries. The three crosses of warheads before the choir date back to the th century. In the th and th centuries, the church expanded by the construction of a span and chapels on the southern side of the apse. In 1827, the last two spans, the north side, the chapels of Canon Planchet street and the current bell were built. The portal is built in conchylien limestone, the shells embedded in the stone are very apparent, and many figures can be noticed. The magnificent stained glass windows of the choir and those of the chapels of the Virgin and Saint John Baptiste are A. Mauvernay, a master verrier in Saint-Galmier.

HEADWEAR

Monuments to visit

Around Chazelles, you can still see the chimneys of the old chapelleries boiler. Indeed, Chazelles counted more than 30 artisan or industrial chapelleries that can be discovered in the city. For example, in Martouret Street, the now disused Fléchet factory will be found. This company, operating from 1859 to 1976, was one of the largest in the city and exported its production worldwide. Towards the Rue de la Liberté, the passage of the White Hat takes its name from an headgear that manufactured only white felt cones… As for St. Galmier's Highway No. 16, former headgear Blanchard today hosts the Workshop-Musée du Chapeau.
