JOUVET PARK
A park with a rich collection of tree species and a monumental fountain facing the Rhône, Valence's green lung.
It's the heart of the city. The green lung of Valence, with some 700 species of trees, this park extends over seven hectares as an extension of the Champ-de-Mars, facing the Rhône, the Château de Crussol and the Monts du Vivarais. The steps surrounding its monumental fountain have been trodden by generations of walkers, and its benches in the shade of the tall trees have played host to many a romance. This urban green space is over 100 years old! It bears the name of Théodore Jouvet, a wealthy retiree from Saint-Marcel-lès-Valence, who acquired this large plot of land at the beginning of the last century and donated it to the town. A stele has been erected in his honour at the entrance to the park. In 1905, French President Émile Loubet inaugurated this green setting, which became a favorite strolling destination for Valence's high society. Over the years, the park has been enriched by the addition of greenhouses, pavilions, works of art and monuments, all of which have been listed since 1942 as Natural Monuments and Artistic Sites. Its little train, wooden playground, giant trampolines and pet shop are a delight for children. And their parents, who can stroll through the rose garden or laze on the lawns. You can do it all in Parc Jouvet: jogging, cycling, rollerblading, feeding bread to the ducks, picnicking, sitting on the grass, eating ice cream and even strolling hand in hand... like Peynet's lovers.

Agréable sauf que l'autoroute et la nationale de la Vallée du Rhône passe à côté.
