Discover 4,000 years of history in the nuns' former cells.
Housed in the renovated buildings of the former Visitation convent (17th century), this immense museum is entirely dedicated to shoes. The extraordinary collection on display is an invitation to travel, to discover all forms of footwear, from the most classic to the most extravagant, from the most ancient to the most contemporary. This location in Romans is no coincidence, as the town was the cradle of the Roman luxury shoe industry. We discover 4,000 years of history presented in the former cells of the nuns. Ornaments and accessories adorned with symbolism, passion, art and sometimes even... precious stones. The oldest model on display is 3,500 years old: a papyrus sandal from Egypt. And among the celebrities: the shoes worn by the characters in the film Titanic. Allow two hours for this not-to-be-missed visit and... good shoes! Speaking of shoes... There's also the Musée Hors les Murs. As you stroll through Romans, you'll be amazed by these giant shoes (2 m high!) which have been installed at strategic points around the city, like works of art in the wink of an eye. Look for the giraffe pump, the fish shoe, the braided derby, the star-spangled pump and the shock shoe... not forgetting Christian Louboutin's Pensée. For the record, this undisputed master of the stylish shoe trained at Charles Jourdan's workshops in Roman.
