TERRA CABRA : BETWEEN GOAT AND PICODON
Space of discovery and relaxation on the goats and the picodon allowing to visit the farms and to make a tasting.
Some fifteen farm producers and affineurs were involved in the creation of this space for discovery and relaxation around the exhibition "Entre chèvre et picodon" ("Between goat and picodon")... The Ardèche already had its Chestnut Museum, but what it lacked was a Goat Museum! Inaugurated in the heart of the village of Planzolles, this museum is dedicated to the goat industry, and invites you to take a behind-the-scenes look at Picodon: goat feeding, milking, cheese-making, the dressing room... Producers reveal the secrets that give the famous Picodon its distinctive character. Located above the Peytot maturing workshop, which groups together 15 producers from the appellation, Terra Cabra is both informative and educational. Children can experiment, watch a film, touch, smell, play and answer questions. How many liters of milk does a goat produce each day? How many vats are needed to mold 10 liters of milk? How long does goat's cheese need to mature to qualify for the Picodon appellation? How many goat cheeses have PDO status in France? Every year, 800,000 cheeses pass through the Planzolles maturing facility. At the end of the tour, time is devoted to tasting tommes at different stages of ripening. And of course, you can buy cheese from the workshop and a selection of other regional products in the store.
