Ruins of the 10th century castle built by the Pagan-Retourtour on a rocky promontory, overhanging a loop of the Doux.
These ruins have retained a certain cachet. The vegetation also enjoys climbing this building and consolidating its stones, the solidity of which should always be checked after heavy rains. Built on a rocky promontory, overhanging a loop of the Doux, the castle was built in the 10th century by one of the local families, the Pagan-Retourtour. Quarrels of succession in the 14th century are probably at the origin of the ruin of the castle. It is said that at the beginning of the 18th century, a small brigand lord lived there and ransacked the area.

Une ballade originale
Pour les amateurs de vieilles pierres, Retourtour était l'une des trois paroisses avace Macheville et Lamastre avant la Révolution Française, réunies en une seule commune, Lamastre à la Révolution. Du château de Retourtour il ne reste qu'un pan de mur, mais le détour vaut le coup d’œil et l'approche du lieu offre de superbes panoramas. enfin autre attrait et non des moindre, la plage de Retourtour au pied des ruines, lieu de baignade (retenue sur le Doux) fréquenté depuis le début du siècle...
