Labastide-de-Virac, halfway between Vallon Pont d'Arc and Aven d'Orgnac, is a charming medieval village perched on a rocky outcrop. Its narrow cobbled streets and ancient houses give it an authentic charm. The village's main attraction is its castle, built between the 14th and 15th centuries to watch over the Pont d'Arc pass. Listed as a historic monument, the château is open to visitors and offers a breathtaking view of the Cévennes from its terrace. Inside, visitors can admire the great hall with its fireplace and original ceiling, as well as the silk museum housing a silkworm farm. Hiking enthusiasts can also take advantage of the marked trails that lead to the collapsed dolmens and ruins of ancient windmills in the surrounding woods. The village has a population of around 215 and is located in the Ardèche department, in the Grands sites des gorges de l'Ardèche community of communes.
