Since 1986, the museum has been housed in one of the earliest examples of Renaissance architecture and decor built in France between 1497 and 1503. Of the original building, only the façade remains, featuring a thistle, belt and kite, emblems of the Bourbons. It houses original medieval sculptures from the court of the Dukes of Bourbon. The museum also features a number of fine terracotta statues, very much in vogue in the 16thcentury , created by the prestigious artists who frequented the Dukes' court. The museum also boasts a collection of exceptional paintings, including the benchmark collection by painter Marcellin Desboutin (1823-1902). Georges-Antoine Rochegrosse (1859-1938), son-in-law of the Moulin poet Théodore de Banville (1823-1891), whose sculpted mask is also represented with Le Bal des Ardents. Several showcases are devoted to Moulins earthenware. An area is dedicated to Moulins' decorative arts, as well as to French academic art from 1850 to 1900. One room is devoted to regional archaeology, with around 400 objects and sculptures arranged in chronological order according to the six great historical periods, and an interactive educational trail. Themed workshops during school vacations. One or two temporary exhibitions a year, for which the museum borrows works from leading French museums. Combine your visit with that of Louis Mantin's mysterious house. Musical tours, workshops, readings and concerts all year round.

L'espace est bien organisé (bien que le sens duparcours soit peu clair), le personnel est gentil et accueillant. Nous avons visité une exposition temporaire très intéressante sur le néolithique, avec une reproduction du disque de Nebra ????
