LES GLACIÈRES DE SYLANS
Glacières du lac founded in 1860, became the Glacières de Paris at the beginning of the 20th century in Les Neyrolles.
Founded in 1860 by a Nantua cafe owner, Les Glacières du Lac grew rapidly. In the early 20th century, they became Glacières de Paris. Between 20 and 30 10-tonne wagon loads of ice were shipped every day throughout France. However, the company collapsed with the onset of the First World War, faced with competition from artificial ice. It closed in 1926. The site, which has been completely refurbished, can be visited on its own or with a guide. Night visits are particularly interesting, thanks to the lighting effects used.
