Sanctuary to welcome pilgrims, to make known Saint Jean-Marie Vianney, Curé d'Ars, and to preserve his memory in this place.
The Shrine of Ars belongs to the Roman Catholic Church, and more precisely to the Diocese of Belley-Ars, the ecclesiastical province of Lyon. Since the death of Jean-Marie Vianney, Curé d'Ars until 1859, the Shrine's mission has been to welcome pilgrims, to make known the saintly Curé, patron saint of all curés, and to preserve his memory in this place. The communities of brothers, sisters and lay people who animate this place receive pilgrims with joy. They invite them to encounter the Lord, to strengthen their faith, and to discover the work of the Curé d'Ars.
