THE COMTADIN JEWISH MUSEUM
The Musée juif Comtadin, a major witness to the ritual life of the small Comtat Jewish community that lived in Cavaillon.
It remains a major witness to the life of the Comtat's small Jewish community, which lived in Cavaillon until the French Revolution, before dispersing to the big cities around 1912. On display are ritual objects and archival documents such as the ketouba (marriage contract). Many come from a book cemetery (gueniza), discovered in 1928 in the synagogue's roof structure. Regularly, thanks to donations or acquisitions, "treasures" such as this 18th-century ketubah are added. Guided tours are available.
