The acquisition of the historic bastide owned by Huguette Caren, the former owner, by a Canadian businessman marks the rebirth of a place that hosted Joe Dassin's wedding in early 1978. Following extensive renovation work, the hotel now boasts 34 rooms and suites, spread over 3 hectares of unspoilt nature, while retaining the original spirit of Lou Calen. Two restaurants, one gourmet and one bistro, offer lunch and dinner on site. New: a bookshop has opened in the hotel entrance.

My husband and I stayed here for three nights in late March at the beginning of a ten-day trip. When check-out time arrived, we were tempted to scrap the rest of our itinerary and stay in Cotignac.
While there is plenty to do in the surrounding area and the village of Cotignac is beautiful, the grounds of Lou Calen alone are worth a visit. We loved reading on the terrace, exploring the gardens, and relaxing beside one of the two pools. The whole estate was bursting with life and the first signs of spring (I can only imagine what everything looks like in full bloom) and was so tranquil. I don’t think either of us have relaxed so quickly on a vacation.
Between thoughtful touches like sun hats for guests, the incredibly friendly and welcoming staff, fully stocked (honor code for payment) snack cabinet and refrigerator, and beautifully tended grounds, the Lou Calen team have created something very special here.
The whole place is absolutely charming . The entrance is in the library , setting up the bar very high on the cultural level . The lift to the bedroom in the main building ( recently renovated with so much attention) is superb.
I came for the pool ,I got more ! I suntanned in one , I swam in another one , and I shamelessly walked in the sandy one for the little ones , warm water and no shark ( ???? )
The staff were nice .
The breakfast was adequate .
