PIGEON HOUSE OF ROUX DE CORSE
Dovecote with a cylindrical tower of 22.50 meters high in Brue-Auriac, the highest in Europe, to discover.
This dovecote, the highest in Europe with a cylindrical tower of 22.50 meters high and a diameter of 12.43 meters, was built in 1750 by Georges Roux, a shipowner from Marseille who raised homing pigeons to satisfy his wife's pigeon passion. It could contain up to 1,500 pigeons. Pilasters support the roof. Pigeon houses were an essential part of daily life in Provence, as they constituted a very interesting pantry.
