SANTONS MARCEL CARBONEL
This boutique-museum recounts the history of nativity of Provence, which began in Marseille in the th century, when a Capuchin decided to reproduce the characters of the crèche in miniature. Little by little, new characters from everyday life complement the heroes of Christianity. From 1803, Marseille became the first foire fair of France. Today, it is held every year in December. Marcel Carbonel began his work of goldsmith in 1935. He was able to restore life and colour to these characters of land, with original creations. Thus, alongside the characters of the Pastoral (the Virgin, the angel, the three kings…), you will find a baker, a picker of olives or a bugadière (charged to make the laundry), many traditional trades that made the history of Provence. An online sales service is available, but the shop-museum and the workshop, adjoining, are worth the trip! Do not hesitate to visit the workshop free and free, and ask your questions for the santonniers!
