With its CHU, four hospitals and more than 80 operating theatres, Assistance Publique des Hôpitaux de Marseille is the largest hospital in the region. A vital economic force for the department, it is the largest employer in the PACA region. More than 12,000 employees and 1,900 doctors are organized into professional categories and medical specialties at several sites in the city. Care, training, research, prevention and health education are just some of the distinct missions spread over a wide urban area: La Timone, Hôpital Nord, Hôpital Sud (Sainte-Marguerite and Salvator) and, finally, La Conception, whose switchboard now manages the call platform. This centralization of requests enables users to get in touch more efficiently with the service they require. The constantly evolving geographical coverage is aimed at better deployment of medical specialties (adults, children), more accessible local care and faster treatment of rare pathologies. Since November 14, 2014, adult general emergencies have been located at Timone 2, Bd Jean Moulin entrance. There is no longer a general emergency department at Hôpital de la Conception.
