Recently renovated memorial, featuring a fun and instructive museographic tour of the French anthem.
It was here, in the Belsunce district, rue Thubaneau, that the national anthem composed by Rouget de Lisle was first sung on June 22, 1792. A "war song for the army of the Rhine", it was named "Marseillaise" because it was sung by Provençals who had come to Paris to save the Revolution. Recently renovated, the Mémorial de la Marseillaise offers a fun and instructive museographic tour of the French anthem, one of the best-known in the world.
