MIDDAY COVE
Calanque de Méjean with idyllic turquoise waters and umbrella pines, offering numerous hikes and water activities.
Emblematic of the Côte Bleue, the Méjean cove is one of the prettiest on this side of Ensuès-la-Redonne. It is located after the Redonne cove by the road, and is the main access point of the Customs trail that runs along the cliffs to the Niolon cove. You'll have to first go through the Petit-Méjean to get to the Grand-Méjean by car or on foot, as there is no train station here! The idyllic turquoise waters and the umbrella pines swaying in the wind offer a pretty Provencal picture, with cicadas in the background. Although the Côte Bleue is less frequented than the Calanques National Park on the Cassis side, the place is nevertheless taken by storm at weekends and during school holidays. To find peace and quiet, you will have to walk and settle down on a rocky corner. Numerous hikes around this calanque, details of which you will find at the entrance. Note that the cove was recently chosen for the shooting of one of the latest films by the Marseille director Robert Guédiguian. Hikers walk along the cove and pass behind the small bowling alley to find the GR-51 towards Erevine and Niolon. Not always easy but breathtaking. Méjean is also appreciated by kayak, snorkeling and paddle enthusiasts. From the beach of Le Rouet, you can explore the various creeks including this one. Finally, diving is queen here too: it is here that you will find the Méjean drop-off , a coral wall at a depth of 24 m, rich in fish, gorgonians and moray eels.
