Foundation dedicated to the work of Victor Vasarely, avant-garde French-Hungarian artist of the 1960s

Victor Vasarely, an avant-garde French-Hungarian artist of the 1960s, created this foundation in 1976 to bring contemporary art within the reach of as many people as possible in the heart of the working-class district of Jas-de-Bouffan. This "architechtonic" center with its "lumino-kinetic" sculptures, conceived as a futuristic city of happiness, is composed of 16 hexagons with a double revolution staircase. Inspired by Bauhaus architecture, the building houses a room dedicated to optical art and the Centre de conservation-restoration des œuvres de Victor Vasarely.

Un genio intramontabile capace, ancor oggi, di influenzare molto dei linguaggi grafici. La visita al museo era un desiderio che, dalla scoperta di questo grande artista "artigiano" di alcuni anni fà, mi portavo dentro con determinazione e passione. L'optical art è una forma artistica diretta, stupisce e affascina, avvolta nel mistero del gioco della profondità e del movimento, che solo la infinita creatività, impreziosita dall'impatto di gradazione e associazione del colore, ha la capacità di colpire e meravigliarci.
