Baroque-style fountain in front of the Madeleine church, Aix-en-Provence
Located in front of the Madeleine church, adjoining the former convent of the Preaching Brothers, the fountain was built in 1757 by sculptor Jean-Pancrace Chastel in the heart of the former county town. At the center of the basin, a large pedestal with 4 lions and 4 medallions representing the town's founder, the Roman consul Sextius Calvinus, Charles III du Maine, the last Count of Provence, the future Louis XVIII and the reigning King Louis XV. At the top, an eagle embraces the globe.
