Opened in 1893 by Felix Faure, President of the French Republic, the Centenary monument commemorates the decree on the annexation of the County of Nice by France in 1793 and the creation of the Alpes-Maritimes department. The bronze statue represents a winged victory wrapped in a French flag taking the oath of loyalty. The marble group symbolizes Nice Given to France. Facing the Promenade des Anglais, it stands on the edge of the garden of Albert the 1st, the oldest park in the city.
