THE OBSERVATORY
Created in 1881 by the patron and banker Raphaël-Louis Bischoffsheim, the Nice Observatory is set on Mount Gros in a green park of hectares. Charles Garnier built the 15 buildings of the time and Gustave Eiffel built the dome with the main window. Built in stone in La Beausoleil, the main building consists of a square base whose four facades, perfectly symmetrical and identical, are decorated with ionic columns. Its dome weighs nearly 100 tons and behind a system of rolling rolling rollers. To look at the stars, the 18 m long bezel allows more precise observations. Since 1988, the Nice Observatory has merged with the Centre for Studies in Geodynamics and Astrometry (CERGA) of Grasse to form a public institution: the Observatory on the Côte d'Azur. The hotel offers guided tours all year round around a pleasant promenade.
