St. John's Baptistery next to the Holy Cross Museum, housing a rare baptismal pool for baptism by immersion
Right next to the Holy Cross Museum, the Baptistery of St. John proudly displays its age and its ochre. Here it is, one of the oldest paleochristian monuments in Europe, built for the most part in the5th century, but whose oldest parts date from the 4th century, the time of Saint-Hilaire, the first bishop of Poitiers. The site houses a rare baptismal pool used for baptism by immersion until the 8th century, magnificent Romanesque and Gothic wall paintings and a collection of Merovingian sarcophagi from the region.

Un très beau baptistère des premiers temps resté authentique. Un des lieux essentiels à voir à Poitiers.
It is a magnificent monument, steeped in history, not to miss if you come to Poitiers. It could be UNESCO World Heritage site.
Superb place to visit. One a better idea of the life of Christians from the Early middle ages. This site is likely one day to be classify UNESCO World Heritage site. For my part I recommend this site for those who like the history, or simply curious.
