In the 15th-century château of Monts-sur-Guesnes, Eleanor of Aquitaine and her son, Richard the Lionheart, await you for a leap into the history of Poitou, at the origins of the Kingdom of France. Open from April to November. Opening times vary according to season. July-August: daily, 10am-7pm. Adults: €14. Children (aged 4 to 16): €8.50. An accessible epic for the general public, where history buffs will rub shoulders with apprentice knights, all of whom will be won over by a spectacular and contemporary device that takes place in the heart of buildings dating from the end of the Middle Ages.
And outside, you will enjoy shooting demonstrations with monumental medieval weapons every day.

l'activité était terminée depuis le 22 juin. Autrement dit, plus disponible une fois que les enfants sont en vacances. Incompréhensible!
On nous a répondu que c'était bien noté sur le site.
Effectivement, tout en bas, la date de fin était indiquée (pas en petit, certes, mais noyée dans le reste). Sauf qu'au 10 juillet, l'activité est toujours mise en avant, avec visuels à l'appui dans le château lui-même. Résultat : on paie plein pot alors que ce qu'on était venus chercher n'est plus proposé. Première grosse déception.
Passons à la visite en elle-même: la déception est immense. Plus qu'un château, on visite un musée sur l histoire du Poitou, déconnecté de son lieu. L'essentiel de l'exposition tourne autour d'Aliénor d'Aquitaine, de Poitiers, avec une reconstitution d'un banquet... qui ne s'est jamais déroulé dans ce château. On a l'impression qu'on a plaqué un sujet "bankable" sans aucun lien réel avec l'histoire locale de Monts sur Guesnes
Alors oui, c'est peut-être bien fait pour les touristes qui ne connaissent pas la région. Mais quand on est du département, et qu'on espère faire découvrir à ses enfants un peu de leur patrimoine local, c'est franchement consternant. On ne vient pas à Monts sur guesnes pour entendre parler de Poitiers ou de NOUAILLE MAUPERTUIS. On vient chercher du sens, de l'histoire authentique, du territoire local. Ici, il n'y en a pas.
Bref, grosse désillusion pour une sortie qu'on espérait familiale, culturelle et ancrée dans le local. Aucun intérêt de revenir, et on ne recommande pas, sauf peut-être à ceux qui ne savent pas du tout où ils sont.
