Remains of a founded abbey with an impressive lantern tower and a lapidary museum with beautiful gothic sculptures.
The abbey was founded at the end of the 8th century by Roger, Count of Limoges, under the protection of Charlemagne. A relic of the Holy Cross attracted pilgrims on their way to Santiago de Compostela. Destroyed during the Wars of Religion, it was used as a stone quarry during the Revolution. Today, you can admire the impressive Lantern Tower, known as the Charlemagne Tower from the 11th century, a vestige of the abbey, as well as the lapidary museum (with remarkable gothic sculptures and its treasure), witnesses of the past grandeur of this medieval pilgrimage site.
