MONASTÈRE DE L'ANNONCIATION
Monastery offering retreat sessions in the silence of the church, listening to the Word of God and in contact with nature
The monastery was founded in 1617 in Poitiers by Antoinette of Orleans. It originated from the reform of the royal abbey of Fontevrault in the south of Anjou, for which the foundress was auxiliary abbess. Wishing to return to the original intuition of the abbey, she created a new congregation which was approved by Pope Paul V in 1617: Notre-Dame-du-Calvaire, of which the monastery of Poitiers is the mother house. There was no longer an abbess, but a prioress elected by the other sisters. About ten years ago, the congregation had three other communities, the monastery of Notre-Dame in Bouzy-la-Forêt in 45, the monastery of Angers in 49 and the monastery of the Benedictine sisters of the Mount of Olives in East Jerusalem. The monastery in Poitiers was transferred to Saint-Julien-l'Ars in the Vienne in 1962 and then to Prailles in 1999, in a former Huguenot house. The Sisters have also built up friendships with the Protestant communities in the region. The hostel offers the possibility of retreating in the silence of the church, in the calm of the room, listening to the Word of God and in contact with nature. Sessions and retreats are organised throughout the year. Stays of one or more days are possible, whether you are alone, in couple, family or small group. You will have the opportunity to share the "Prayer of the Hours" which structures a day in the community. You can also ask a sister to listen to you.
