In 1990, noting the shortcomings in the end-of-life accompaniment, health care providers and hospital stakeholders in Niort created ASP the Estuary. The association has signed a convention with the South Deux Hospital (Niort. and Saint-Maixent) to co-operate with sick people and their families and is currently working in connection with the mobile palliative care team. The missions of the Estuary fall into three axes: support for people who are seriously ill or at the end of life, follow-up to bereavement in an individual way with the psychologist or palliative care team, and the grieving group.
